She Owns a Business and is a Graduate Student, Say Whaaaat?

Writer: Miranda HookerMiranda Hooker

Alright guys, here we go. The first blog post! I am definitely nervous to delve into this new chapter in my life, but am also so excited to get to talk to you all on a much deeper and more personal level than I can on instagram alone.

So for my first official blog post, I am just going to tell you all about me! Makes sense, for a first post, right?? Let's start with the basics: My name is Miranda and I am 24 years old. I am married to my sweet husband Dylan, and we have a 2 year old German Shepherd named Mia. We currently live in Manchester, NH, but were both born and raised in Eugene, OR!

Dylan and I met on the first day of our sophomore year of high school. He was the new kid, and I thought he was super cute. I tried for weeks to get his attention, but he was totally clueless. We ended up hanging out at a football game one Friday night in October, and then the next day I messaged HIM on Facebook for his number, and the rest is history!

We got married on August 26th, 2017 when we were just 21 years old! People may think we are crazy, but we are so happy we got married when we did. We adopted Mia the following Christmas, and have been loving on her ever since!

We moved to NH in November of 2018. And if you follow me on instagram, I bet you can guess why! Yep, for me to start graduate school. I was accepted into the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Accelerated PA program, and while I would have loved to go to school closer to home, I am soooo happy with my choice to attend MCPHS!

Becoming a PA (physician assistant) has been my dream since I was 15 years old. Long before I even knew what reselling was, I was working my way towards becoming a PA. I could tell you that the reason I have always wanted to be a PA is because all I want to do is help people, but that would be a load of crap. Sure, knowing that my skills have done something to help a person in their life is nice, but my reasoning for wanting to be a PA is so much more complicated than that. On the simples level I can say this: I find medicine to be absolutely fascinating. I love getting to learn everything there is about the human body and how it ticks. I love that I will have the knowledge and skills to do things that so many other people can't. And let's be real....the pay is nice.

So in November 2018, we packed up our cars and made a big drive across the country (well, Dylan and his dad did. I was lucky enough to get to fly.), and have been living here ever since! There are definitely A LOT of differences between here and OR, but we have really come to enjoy where we live....but simultaneously cannot wait to get home!

As for reselling, my story of how I got into it is pretty simple. I had just been introduced to Poshmark by a friend in the Spring of 2018, and one day Dylan said to me "Hey, we should start selling stuff on there!". And so we did.

We sold items from our own closet for a few months, then very causally started doing some thrifting over the summer. My business really started to take off in October of 2018, which I consider my official start date! At that time we got serious about making reselling a business, I created a brand and instagram account. And again, the rest is history!

Since starting this reselling business I have learned SO MUCH. Not just about fashion, but also about business practices, retail customer services, taxes, priorities, time management and so much more. I continue to learn more every day too! I feel like between school and this business, my life is an ever evolving learning process.

So that's all the basics. I'm young, married, in graduate school and own a business. I have a dog and I really love life. What else can I tell you?! Here are 10 random facts you may not know about me:

1. I hate oranges. I love orange juice and orange flavored things, but I literally cannot choke down an orange slice. They gross me out.

2. I am a HUGE fan of sports at my alma mater, Oregon State University. I was a huge fan (as is my whole family) before going to school there, and probably will be for the rest of my life! #Beav4life #gobeavs

3. I have 2 little sisters, and we are all really spread out in age. My middle sister is 6 years younger than me and just graduated high school, and my baby sister is 9 years old! And yes, we have the same parents. They are just crazy and wanted to do the whole parenting thing for like 30 years straight I guess.

4. My first job at 17 years old was at McDonalds, and I absolutely hated it. I worked there for maybe 3 months.

5. I love games. Board games, card games, video games, you name it. I live for game nights and may be the most competitive person on this planet.

6. I like to talk. I get it from my dad. It drives my mom crazy.

7. Dylan (my husband, just as a reminder if you forgot already) has 10 siblings. The

youngest one is 4! They all have the same parents too. My in laws are saints. (This is all of us, plus my sister in law, niece and nephew!)

8. I love to cook and bake. I am by no means a star baker or chef, but I really enjoy practicing!

9. I was a Harry Potter nerd when I was a kid. I read all the books about 100x each, saw all the movies at their midnight premieres, and was literally depressed and stuck in bed for like 3 days after the last movie came out.

10. If I had to choose between being too hot and being too cold I would choose cold 10 out of 10 times. Being hot sucks.

So there you have it! Some basics and then some random facts about me. I can't wait to write my next post! Just as a glimpse, here are some of the things I plan to talk about in my posts:

- reseller related things: my go to tools/gadgets, how-to's in reselling, etc.

- school related things: how each rotation is going, what is a PA, etc.

- life related posts: a day in the life of me, an all about Dylan post, day to day stuff we encounter, etc.

Until next time!

Miranda
